Valmet Automotive starts manufacturing Mercedes sports cars

At the end of July, Valmet Automotive signed an agreement with Mercedes-Benz Group AG to manufacture the Mercedes-AMG GT sports car in both combustion engine and hybrid versions. Production will start at the Uusikaupunki car plant towards the end of 2023.

The production of the Mercedes-AMG GT sports car is estimated to employ around 200 people in various departments of the Uusikaupunki car factory. The production is planned to be carried out through internal staffing arrangements.

In the future, all four-door Mercedes-AMG GT cars will be produced in Uusikaupunki. This is a genuine Mercedes-AMG sports car with high quality standards.

“The production of the AMG model is an exceptionally strong demonstration of Valmet Automotive’s expertise. We have convinced the customer of our ability to manufacture highly specialised and extremely high-quality products. It’s great to be back as a sports car manufacturer,” says Pasi Rannus, Director of Manufacturing Services at Valmet Automotive.

Valmet Automotive is pleased with the agreement signed today, which will continue and further expand the cooperation with the Mercedes-Benz Group. The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé will also continue the Uusikaupunki car plant’s tradition as a manufacturer of high-quality sports cars. The AMG GT is the fourth car model that Valmet Automotive will produce for Mercedes-Benz Group AG.

Valmet Automotive has already started a project for the production of the AMG GT, which will involve modifying the paint shop to allow the use of a range of special colours, including matte paint, in the process. The GLC welding shop will be modified to meet the needs of AMG GT production and a dedicated production line will be built for the model.
