HealthTurku – top expertise in health and well-being
The Turku region efficiently combines long-term top research in life science with diverse business operations, and expertise in commercialisation and internationalisation. The focus lies especially in the research and business operation in pharmaceutical and diagnostics industries, as well as health foods and materials technology. From the beginning of 2018, this extensive health and well-being concept was named HealthTurku which replaces the previous BioTurku cluster that focused mainly on pharmaceutical and diagnostics expertise.
Turku is the strongest expertise cluster of the life science field in Finland and a pioneer of business operations. Established in Turku in spring 2013, Auria Biobank is Finland’s first hospital biobank, and the Turku PET Centre is one of the biggest centres of excellence in imaging in Europe and among the best known in the world.
Within the Health Campus Turku network the Hospital District of Southwest Finland, the University of Turku, Åbo Akademi University, Turku University of Applied Sciences, Novia University of Applied Sciences and Turku Science Park Ltd work together to promote the business operation based on high-quality expertise in the social affairs and health care sectors.
Research, innovation and product development activities are enhanced through the expertise offered by the Health Campus Turku network. The new TERTTU testing and development platform is now open and ready to serve.
The popular HealthBIO event arranged annually by Turku Science Park Ltd promotes the national and international networking and co-operation of the health care companies in particular.

Tailored health and well-being
Preventive and well-being supporting, individual products and services for people of all ages are being developed in the Turku region by using ICT expertise and methods based on artificial intelligence. Top research in the field, diverse business operations and commitment of the public sector to the development of the well-being field contribute to the productive and globally growing co-operation.
Important drug development and diagnostics companies in the Turku region include e.g. Bayer, Biovian, Faron Pharmaceuticals, Forendo Pharma, Hytest, Orion, and PerkinElmer, and in food industry Bioferme, Eckes Granini, HKScan, Nestle, and Raisio.
