Piiloset offers a solution to the problem of fogging in spectacles
Finnsusp Oy (Piiloset), the only manufacturer of ophthalmic lenses in Finland, launches frost-free lenses. The family-owned company is the first in the Nordic countries to invest in a new coating machine that makes the problem of fogging a thing of the past, for example when working in sports or in cold conditions.
“In the future, we can offer a solution to the problem of fogging in eyewear by coating the lenses ordered by the customer from the optician. This new technology is much more effective and less troublesome than using anti-fogging agents, which leave a film on the lenses,” says Tomi Korhonen, Development and Sales Director of Piiloset Optiikka.
The easy-to-use, permanent coating on the lens does not degrade the optical properties of the lens. The coating breaks up water molecules on the lens surface, preventing visible evaporation from forming. The invisible liquid film evaporates from the surface of the lenses without any visible haze interfering with vision. Occupational groups moving indoors and outdoors, such as forklift drivers, will particularly benefit from this feature.
“This is a significant investment of half a million euros for the family-owned company Piiloset in the development of domestic ophthalmic lens production. The coating machine is also the only one of its kind in the Nordic countries,” says CEO Riikka Järvinen.
Piiloset, or Finnsusp Oy, has been investing in the development, testing and manufacturing of eye care products, contact lens solutions and contact lenses for more than four decades. Products developed and manufactured by the company are sold in more than 40 countries around the world.
